Beyond the Basics
Dive deep into the art and science of poi, with renowned poi-teacher Nick Woolsey, creator of playpoi.com.
In this workshop we will explore footwork, advanced plane control, poi flowers (inspin, antispin, and how to combine them), rhythm and musicality, and techniques for developing complete freedom of movement and expression!
This course includes a membership to Nick’s Step-by-Step Beyond-the-Basics online poi course. Participants will be asked to complete the first section of videos at home to prepare. This will ensure that you get the most out of the weekend.
*To attend these workshops you must be flowing comfortably with weaves and windmills, hip and shoulder reels, and butterfly (both inwards and outwards). You can watch a video defining the prerequisites here: http://www.playpoi.com/learn/overview-of-basics. Please check to make sure you are truly comfortable with all the prerequisites. Thanks for understanding!

Facilitator - Nick Woolsey
Nick Woolsey has been an influential poi artist since 2002.
He has toured all over the world teaching poi and making videos for his popular website: playpoi.com. from which he became the poi hero of many poi enthusiasts!!
Nick compares learning poi to learning music. The “Scales of Poi” are to a poi spinner what music scales are to a musician. Mastering these fundamental skills allows a poi artist to play freely, to learn new moves easily, and to develop their own style.
When not teaching poi or practicing, Nick designs imaginary spaceships.
