The Fundamentals of POI
Set yourself down the road to poi mastery with world-class teacher Nick Woolsey, creator of Playpoi.com.
In these workshops you will learn the fundamental moves of poi (hip and shoulder reels, weaves and windmills, and variations of butterflies), along with techniques for combining moves into sequences and expressive movement.
All participants will receive a membership to Nick’s comprehensive online poi fundamentals course. Mandatory pre-workshop beginner class MUST be completed!! As preparation, you will be asked to complete the first two sections of videos which are covered in the classes. Getting started at home will allow us to cover a lot of ground in one weekend! (Don’t worry, the videos are easy to follow at home!) will be covered in the mandatory class.
BONUS JAM: Friday we will have a post workshop jam open for practice and play! Nick will be available for questions and feedback. This will be your opportunity to integrate what your learned in the first workshop, while preparing yourself for the second!

Facilitator - Nick Woolsey
Nick Woolsey has been an influential poi artist since 2002.
He has toured all over the world teaching poi and making videos for his popular website: playpoi.com. from which he became the poi hero of many poi enthusiasts!!
Nick compares learning poi to learning music. The “Scales of Poi” are to a poi spinner what music scales are to a musician. Mastering these fundamental skills allows a poi artist to play freely, to learn new moves easily, and to develop their own style.
When not teaching poi or practicing, Nick designs imaginary spaceships.
